Did Melania Trump plagiarise Michelle Obama's 2008 Convention speech?

Donald Trump's wife Melania addressed the Republican National Convention to rousing applause with her first major political speech on Monday .
The Slovenian-born former model painted the billionaire businessman as a talented, compassionate and unrelenting leader who would unify rather than divide the country if elected as president.
But following her moment in the spotlight, social media commenters were quick to note the striking similarities between her words and those of Michelle Obama's from the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
The two speeches, ironically on the importance of hard work, use the same phrasing "work hard for what you want in life," "your word is your bond" and "we want our children in this nation...to know the limits of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."
See the excerpts below...
Melania Trump's speech from 2016:

From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.
That is a lesson I continue to pass along to our son, and we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know is the only limits to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them
Michelle Obama's speech from 2008:

And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.
And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children - and all children in this nation - to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them

The similarities were first noticed by L.A. interior designer and journalist Jarrett Hill.

Aviation fuel scarcity leaves passengers stranded, disrupts flights

The scarcity of aviation fuel, popularly called Jet-A1, did not only disrupt flight activities at airports across the country on Monday, but also affected private and government programmes in the Federal Capital Territory.
It was learnt that several programmes in Abuja were either postponed or delayed as key personnel who were to anchor strategic meetings could not arrive on schedule or did not arrive at all.
Several domestic airlines stated that the scarcity of the product had resulted in the delay or outright cancellation of some of their flights.Hundreds of air travellers were left stranded at the domestic terminals of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, as the airlines were forced to either cancel or reschedule most of their flights due to the scarcity of aviation fuel.
As of 5pm, stranded passengers heading for Abuja from the Lagos airport were unable to book substitute flights as all flights to the Federal Capital Territory had been fully booked.
.Arik Air announced that it was grappling with flight schedule disruptions due to the severity of the situation across the country.
It stated that since the beginning of the year, the country had been grappling with inadequate supply of aviation fuel leading in most cases to severe shortage of the product and consequently the disruption of flight operations.

NFF names Le Guen Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation on Monday named Frenchman Paul Le Guen as the new manager of the Super Eagles.
The detail was made public by the Technical and Development Committee of the Federation who listed Le Guen, 52, as the new Technical Adviser. He will be assisted by Nigerian Salisu Yusuf, who takes the role of Chief Coach. The appointments, they said, are subject to agreement of contract terms with the NFF Executive Committee.
Le Guen was highly expected to be named the new manager. No further definition was given by the NFF on the specific roles of the technical adviser and the chief coach on Monday.
The new Eagles manager Le Guen led the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals. As a player he stared for Brest, Nantes and Paris Saint Germain and won 17 caps for France. He later coached Rennes, Lyon, PSG (in France) and Glasgow Rangers (in Scotland). He has also managed Oman.
Yusuf played for Nigeria at the U20 level. Recently, he managed the Eagles in interim capacity for two international friendly matches in Europe against Mali and Luxembourg at the end of May, which the Eagles won.
Spokesman of the NFF committee, Paul Bassey, told thenff.com after the meeting at the NFF Secretariat on Monday that Enugu Rangers gaffer Imama Amapakabo and former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper and skipper Alloy Agu, who served as assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer for the games against Mali and Luxembourg in May, retain their places in the technical crew.
The new crew’s immediate challenge is a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in the first week of September. The match can only serve as a preparatory game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match away to Zambia on October 3 as both Nigeria and Tanzania have long been eliminated from the 2017 African cup race.
The committee has also recommended to the NFF board, the appointment of one-time Eagles assistant coach, Bitrus Bewarang, as the new NFF Technical Director. Bewarang, who is president of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, will replace the late Coach Shaibu Amodu.

Fifa secures new World Cup sponsor

Fifa, which has struggled to find commercial partners since it was battered by a corruption scandal last year, named a Russian bank as its first regional World Cup sponsor.
The global soccer body on Monday said Alfa Bank would “activate sponsorship initiatives” around the 2018 World Cup, which is being hosted by Russia.
Fifa said that, under a new commercial strategy for the World Cup, up to four packages were being offered for regional sponsors in each of the five regions.
It listed the regions as Europe, North America, South America, Middle East and Africa, and Asia.
It said there was a growing interest in the approach.
Fifa was thrown into turmoil last year after criminal investigations were launched into the sport in the U. S., where several dozen former soccer officials have been indicted, and Switzerland.
It was also forced to reform its bidding process after a December 2010 vote awarded the 2018 and 2022 tournaments to Russia and Qatar respectively.
Gianni Infantino was elected to the Fifa presidency in February after promising greater funding for Fifa’s 211 member associations during his campaign.
He said increasing sponsorship revenue would be a priority for his presidency.
Fifa sources have said the federation faces a shortfall of about 500 dollars million in its predictions if it fails to reach sponsorship revenue targets.

South African athlete dies while climbing Kilimanjaro

A South African trying to summit Kenya’s Mount Kilimanjaro to mark Mandela Day has died.
A statement from the Nelson Mandela Foundation said details are “sketchy” but that it appeared Gugu Zulu had problems breathing early Monday as his group tried to reach Africa’s highest peak.
“We are informed that the medical teams tried everything possible to save his life” as they tried to descend, the statement said.
The foundation said the athlete was part of a Trek4Mandela team hoping to summit to mark Mandela’s birthday, a day of volunteer service in South Africa. Authorities said they were climbing in support of girls from disadvantaged communities.
In his last Facebook post, Gugu Zulu on Saturday said, “Am having flu like symptoms and struggling with the mountain but taking it step by step!! Today we managed to see our destination and our camp is literary above the clouds!!”
He was hiking with his wife, Letshego, who descended the 5,895-meter (19,340-foot) mountain with him, the foundation said.
South Africa’s sports ministry called Gugu Zulu a “great talented motorsport athlete who excelled on the race course.”
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.

Per Mertesacker set to be named new Arsenal captain

Per Mertesacker is set to be named Arsenal captain ahead of the new season, according to reports.
The 31-year-old German international, one of the most experienced players at the club, will be rewarded for his loyalty by being handed the armband after Mikel Arteta retired from football to take up a coaching role at Manchester City.
Mertesacker’s central defensive partner Laurent Koscielny will be given the vice-captaincy, while Petr Cech and Theo Walcott are alternate options if the former two aren’t on the pitch.
Despite being out of contract at the end of next season, Mertesacker is a trusted member of the squad and is the ‘chief fine collector’ at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground for players who commit misdemeanours including being late to training.

See full transcript of Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s conversation before ‘Famous’ was released

The controversy over Kanye West‘s song, ‘Famous’ reached its peak last night when the rapper’s wife, Kim Kardashian shut down the blogosphere with a release of his conversation with Taylor Swift before the song was released.

A full transcript of the conversation between ‘Ye and Swift as released by Kim on her Snapchat and it shows the singer’s approval of the song.

Read below;
Kanye West on the phone with Taylor Swift: ‘You still got the Nashville number?’
Taylor Swift: ‘I still have the Nashville umm area code, but I had to change it.’
Kanye West reads the ‘Famous’ lyric: ‘To all my southside n—-s that know me best, I feel likeme and Taylor might still have sex.’
Taylor Swift: ‘I’m like this close to overexposure.’
Kanye West: ‘Oh, well this I think this a really cool thing to have.’
Taylor Swift: ‘I know, I mean it’s like a compliment, kind of.’
Kanye West: ‘All I give a f–k about is you as a person and as a friend, I want things that make you feel good.’
Taylor Swift: ‘That’s sweet.’
Kanye West: ‘I don’t want to do rap that makes people feel bad.’Taylor Swift: ‘Umm, yeah I mean go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice.’
Kanye West: ‘Oh yeah, I just had a responsibility to you as a friend you know, and I mean thanks for being so cool about it.’
Taylor Swift: ‘Aw thanks. Um yeah I really appreciate it, like the heads up is so nice. [inaudible] Even asking or seeing if I would be okay with it and I just really appreciate it. Like I would never expect you to like tell me about a line in one of your songs.’
Kanye West: “It’s pretty crazy.”
Taylor Swift: ‘And then the flowers that you sent me, I like Instagrammed a picture of them and it’s like the most Instagram likes I’ve ever gotten. It was like 2.7’
Kanye West: ‘Relationships are more important than punch lines, ya know?’
Taylor Swift: ‘I don’t think anyone would listen to that and be like that’s a real diss she must be crying. You’ve gotta tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way that you experienced it. You honestly didn’t know who I was before that. It doesn’t matter that I sold 7 million of that album before you did that which is what happened, you didn’t know who I was before that. It’s fine.’
Taylor Swift: ‘I might be in debt, but I can make these things happen. I have the ideas to do it and I create these things and concepts. I’m always going to respect you. I’m really glad that you have the respect to call me and tell me that as a friend about the song. It’s a really cool thing to do and a really good show of friendship so thank you.’
Kanye West: ‘Thank you, too.’
Taylor Swift: ‘And you know, if people ask me about it I think it would be great for me to be like, ‘Look, he called me and told me the line before it came out. Jokes on you guys, We’re fine.’
You guys want to call this a feud; you want to call this throwing shade but right after the song comes out I’m going to be on a Grammys red carpet and they’re going to ask me about it and I’ll be like, ‘He called me.’ It’s awesome that you’re so outspoken about this and be like, ‘Yeah, she does. It made her famous.’ Its more provocative to say ‘might still have sex…’ It’s doesn’t matter to me. There’s not like one [line] that hurts my feelings and one that doesn’t.

Finally, Taylor also has the right to file a lawsuit against Kim and Kanye for violating the law.

Khloe Kardashian and Chloë Grace Moretz Feud on Twitter Following Kim Kardashian's Snapchats

After Kim Kardashian revealed clips of Kanye West and Taylor Swift discussing lyrics for his track "Famous" on Snapchat, several stars took to social media to respond to the pop culture frenzy that had ignited. Among those celebrity names was 19-year-old Neighbors 2 star Chloe Grace Moretz, who expressed a few of her overall thoughts on Twitter.
"Everyone in this industry needs to get their heads out of a hole and look around to realize what's ACTUALLY happening in the REAL world," she wrote late Sunday. "Stop wasting your voice on something so petulant and unimportant."
Kim's younger sister Khloe Kardashian did not take too kindly to Moretz's remarks, begging the question, "Is this the a hole you're referring to @ChloeGMoretz ???" The reality star embedded two photos, one of the actress looking off into the distance clad in a red bikini top and the other, of a blond woman with her back turned to the camera being carried in the ocean on a mystery man's back. In the latter shot, the woman's behind is exposed while the man carrying her accidentally pulls at her red bikini bottom.
While it appeared like both photos were of Moretz, the star clarified for fans. "Fact check: first photo is me filming my movie Neighbors 2, the second photo is some girl who was wrongfully photographed," Moretz explained. She also included a photo of herself from the film shoot, which revealed she was wearing a pair of blue bikini bottoms unlike the second photo depicted.

Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and More Stars Take Sides in Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift's Latest Feud

After Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired,Kim Kardashian shared a series of Snapchat videos that showed Kanye West on the phone with Taylor Swift six months ago. Everything seemed copacetic as the musicians discussed West's song, "Famous." Swift even approved the line, "To all my southside n---as that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex." At the time, West told her, "All I give a f--k about is you as a person and as a friend. I want things that make you feel good. I don't want to do rap that makes people feel bad." Swift said the name-drop was "like a compliment, kind of." What they didn't appear to discuss, though, was the lyric that followed: "Why? I made that bitch famous (God damn) / I made that bitch famous." (Swift made that clear during her 2016 Grammys speech for Album of the Year.)
West was vilified after the song's release and Swift's speech. "I really don't give a f--k, so I'll do whatever to protect my husband," Kardashian said in Sunday's episode. In GQ's July issue, she stood by her claim that Swift signed off on the line. "She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't," she said. "I swear, my husband gets so much s--t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved." A rep for Swift maintains she was never made aware of West's lyric, "I made that bitch famous."
After the Snapchat videos went viral, #KimExposedTaylorParty trended on Twitter.
Swift shared her side of the story via Instagram Sunday. "Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me 'that bitch' in his song? It doesn't exist because it never happened. You don't get to control someone's emotional response to being called 'that bitch' in front of the entire world. Of course I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship. He promised to play the song for me, but he never did," she told her fans. "While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot 'approve' a song you haven't heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination."
Referencing West storming the stage at the MTV VMAs seven years ago, she said, "I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009."
As memes were made, stars took sides in the stars' social media squabble, including Swift's friend and squad member Selena Gomez. In a series of tweets, the "Kill Em With Kindness" singer told her 44.1 million followers, "There are more important things to talk about...Why can't people use their voice for something that f--king matters? Truth is last thing we need right now is hate, in any form. This industry is so disappointing yet the most influential smh." The Twitter trolls then turned on Gomez, as #SelenaGomezIsOverParty #GoToSleepSelena trended.
Meanwhile, Demi Lovato and Pharrell Williams liked tweets that were written in support of Kardashian; Williams un-liked the tweet after fans took notice. Zendaya liked two tweets after Kardashian's Snapchat story took the Internet by storm. One message included two photos of Zendaya and Swift posing with past and present squad members. "My girl zendaya knew better," the caption read. In the second tweet, a Twitter user wrote, "I'm glad zendaya was never really down with that whole Taylor squad s--t." Zendaya later un-liked the tweets. The drama even affected live TV, as Billy Eichnerwas a guest on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live when he was asked what he thought of people "trying to take down" Swift. "I think Taylor Swift likes to be talked about and ultimately likes everything that happening on some level," he said.

Justin Bieber Strokes Fan Who Threw Him A Gift On Stage

The popstar performed for a sold-out crowd in New Jersey Friday night, where he paused the concert to lecture one of his fans for giving him a gift.
After the excited Belieber threw his hat on-stage for the singer, he grabbed his microphone and sternly addressed the crowd.
He said: “Take this moment to listen and try not to give me a hat or whatever you’re trying to throw onto the stage right now, because I probably don’t want that s**t.”
Realising he went a little overboard with his remarks, the star quickly added: “Sorry, maybe that was a bit mean…”
Continuing to address the crowd, Justin went on a bizarre rant about the meaning of life.
“I just wanted to take this moment to acknowledge the fact that we all have a purpose, that we all have a meaning to life and it’s not, like, we just don’t live to die. And this life is not all struggles. I know that sometimes when we wake up in the morning, and it’s like ‘God another day.'”
As his speech came to an end he appeared to go back on his apology, telling the fan: “Sorry for throwing your hat, but you ruined the moment.”

Simi talks about her life and her relationship with Falz.

X3M Music songbird, Simi‘s music career has soared tremendously since the release of her debut gospel album eight years ago, and she attributes her growth to realising she has to ‘work harder as a woman’.

The album went largely unnoticed but the singer has since become one of the music industry’s brightest stars with releases such as ‘Tiff’, ‘Jamb Question’, ‘Soldier’ and ‘Love Don’t Care’.
Speaking with Punch, Simi who doubles as a sound engineer, revealed some of the challenges she has had to battle since making her entry in the entertainment circle.
Have always wanted to do music?

I didn’t grow up around a lot of music because my parents aren’t music inclined. I wrote my first song when I was 10 years old. I have a very short attention span and it is one of the reasons why I experiment a lot with my music. My parents separated when I was nine years old, so I did not spend so much time with my dad; he died in 2014. My parents were quite supportive of my career at first. After I bagged a degree in Mass Communication, from Covenant University, my mother wanted me to get some job experience by working with an oil firm. I have always been of the opinion that its impossible to do music part-time, so I asked her to pray for the success of my music career.

Apart from music, what other things are you talented at?

I am also a sound engineer, so I mix and master music. This a major boost to my career because it means that there are a lot of things I can do on my own. It has also proven to a lot of critics that I am not just another artiste.

You began your career as a gospel act. Why did you go mainstream?

The first thing that comes to the mind is that I did it for monetary reasons. However music became about ‘more’; I wanted to have a broader purview. It was a tough decision for me to make at first. I wanted to explore music more. My faith in God hasn’t waivered because before I went mainstream, I prayed to God to bless my career if it was his plan for me. I also don’t see myself doing gospel music again.

Why did you decide to record an entire album with Falz?

We are very good friends and having worked on several projects together, we toyed with the idea of recording a joint album.

What has fame cost you?

I don’t go out much but I love to go to regular places. I can’t do so any longer and I miss having a regular life because I am a regular girl.

Are you currently dating anyone?

I am in a relationship with someone else who is not Falzthebahdguy; we are just friends. My man is mature and understands the fact that I may be erroneously romantically linked with an artiste simply because we work on music projects together.
